San Fernando Valley movers

Kobe Moving is based in Van Nuys, near the middle of the Valley. This page covers how Valley moves work and links to every neighborhood and nearby city we have a page for.

Moving in the Valley

The San Fernando Valley, or just the Valley, is the broad valley north of the Los Angeles Basin, closed in by the San Gabriel Mountains to the northeast, the Verdugo Mountains to the east, the Santa Monica Mountains to the south, the Simi Hills to the west and the Santa Susana Mountains to the northwest. Mulholland Drive, along the ridge of the Santa Monica Mountains, is the line between the Valley and the Westside and Hollywood.

Most of the Valley is part of the City of Los Angeles, but Burbank, Glendale, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and San Fernando are separate cities, and Universal City is unincorporated. That matters on move day, because parking rules and any permits come from whichever city your address is in.

Getting in and out of the Valley

Every move that leaves the Valley goes through a pass or along a freeway corridor, and each one has its own traffic pattern:

  • Sepulveda Pass (405): to the Westside, Santa Monica and West LA.
  • Cahuenga Pass (101): to Hollywood and downtown.
  • Newhall Pass (5 and 14): to Santa Clarita and Valencia.
  • Santa Susana Pass (118): to Simi Valley.
  • Foothill Freeway (210): to La Crescenta and the Crescenta Valley.
  • Ventura Freeway (101) west: to Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks.

What Valley moves have in common

  • Summer heat. The Valley is hotter in summer than the Los Angeles Basin, so summer moves go better with an early start.
  • Boulevard apartments. Many apartment and condo buildings sit on the big boulevards, such as Ventura, Victory, Sherman Way and Roscoe, where the truck usually loads from a side street.
  • Hillside homes. The edges of the Valley climb into the mountains, and hillside streets decide the size of the truck.
  • Parking signs. In the City of Los Angeles, LADOT posts street-cleaning hours, permit districts and overnight limits for large vehicles. LADOT permit rules.

Our base is at 15049 Raymer St in Van Nuys, near the middle of the Valley.

Which cities near the Valley do you cover?

Besides the Valley neighborhoods, we move customers in Santa Clarita and Valencia, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Calabasas and La Crescenta.

Why does it matter which city my address is in?

Parking rules come from the city. Most of the Valley is the City of Los Angeles, but Burbank, Glendale, San Fernando, Calabasas and Hidden Hills are separate cities.
